Partnership Spotlight: School on Wheels

For more than 10 years, School on Wheels has been making house calls to the residents of Gabriel’s House. Volunteer Andy is visiting weekly to tutor 10-year-old Ayden. Ayden, his brother, and mother are residents of Gabriel’s House, and Ayden was struggling in school due to autism. School on Wheels has the skilled volunteers to help children like Ayden master a variety of school subjects, while gaining important self-esteem. Ayden’s mom, Michelle, says Ayden eagerly anticipates his tutoring each week. He watches for Andy to arrive! School on Wheels is a non-profit organization, deploying hundreds of volunteers to provide free tutoring and mentoring to children from kindergarten through 12th grade living in shelters, motels, vehicles, group foster homes, and the streets of Southern California. They operate in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties. We are grateful to partner with School on Wheels to see the children of Gabriel’s House thrive and learn! Garden Party April 22, 2023

The Gabriel’s House Garden Party was a beautiful day of giving! Our silent and live auctions raised more than $24,000 for house improvements. We also received a gracious outpouring in general donations to support the day-to-day operations of our unique residential shelter for homeless women and children. A special thank you to Miranda and Kristyn for sharing their powerful testimonies and to Sophia deDomenico who presented our exciting live auction. We also want to thank all our board members, staff, and faithful volunteers who give so much of their time and resources to make these events a success. Our biggest thank you goes out to God who provides all things!

Santa Comes to Gabriel’s House

At the Gabriel’s House Christmas Party on December 21, volunteers, staff, current residents, and a few past residents celebrated this holy season Santa made a special appearance with sacks full of gift for all the children—courtesy of many local organizations and individuals. The smiles on the children warmed the hearts of everyone in the room. Then it was the ladies turn to receive gifts donated by a very special volunteer. There were slippers and robes, wallets, and jewelry to choose from! The ladies’ smiles were just as heartwarming! Pastor Mike Collazo led Christmas carols, and everyone joined in to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Thanks to everyone who made this Christmas so full of joy for the women and children of Gabriel’s House.

Harvest of Lights Dinner & Live Auction October 20, 2022

Held at the Camarillo Ranch House, the Harvest of Lights Dinner and Live Auction was a great success because of our amazing board members, faithful donors, generous foundation partners, and new friends! A special thanks to Gene Haas Foundation, Oxnard Monday Club, Alliance Advisory & Securities, Catanese and Wells Law Corporation, and Build D3 Design and Development. Founder and CEO Sam Gallucci reemphasized the Gabriel’s House mission to end the cycle of homelessness—one woman and child at a time. Director Tammy Duff interviewed residents Sandra and Kameron who shared their journey and how Christ has been at the heart of their change and growth. The live auction offered excitement with bidding on luxury vacation homes, a sunset flight from Camarillo Airport, a private gourmet dinner prepared by Sam and Toni Gallucci, and e-bikes from Trek Bicycles Ventura. We reached out goal of raising $100,000 to bring increasing help and hope to homeless women and children.

Gene Haas Foundation Awards Grant to Gabriel’s House

Grants Administrator Katrina Veronica of the Gene Haas Foundation recently announced a $25,000 grant award to Gabriel’s House. This is a valued partnership that means so much to the residents of Gabriel’s House. The Gene Haas Foundation is investing in the most vulnerable among us—homeless women and children. Established in 1999 by Haas Automation Founder Gene Haas, the Gene Haas Foundation supports the needs of the local community and is one of the best examples of Oxnard businesses giving back. We are deeply grateful for their generosity.

Garden Party April 23, 2022

The Gabriel’s House Garden Party on April 23 raised hope for all our residents and those who will come through our doors in the months to come! Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, we were able to raise needed funds to meet the escalating costs of caring for up to 30 women and children at our residential shelter. A special thanks to local artist Iris Carignan for donating three original paintings that we auctioned off to generous art collectors! We also want to thank all our board members, staff, and faithful volunteers who give so much of their time and resources to make these events a success.

They also donated several sets of twin sheets. We are so grateful for these new friends and hope to build a long-lasting relationship with the caring and compassionate team at Enterprise Holdings!

Residents Explore Their Artistic Side

Iris Carignan is a celebrated artist and art instructor from Thousand Oaks. Her landscape paintings have won awards and accolades. She’s also been a volunteer at Gabriel’s House, so when residents expressed an interest in learning to paint, Iris stepped up.

Bringing with her easels, canvases, oil paints and brushes, Iris began teaching a four-week painting class at Gabriel’s House in January. It’s been wonderful to see one of our youngest residents explore artistic expression, while another reconnects with a long-standing love for painting. Iris shares her artistic skill and passion with the women, while also sharing the stories of faith that have guided her life.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give to the women and children of Gabriel’s House. Many of our women—young and old—are enjoying new hobbies and learning new skills in just months of coming to Gabriel’s House. We are grateful for all our volunteers who make a lasting impact on our residents. If you have a talent or skill to share, give us a call!

We can’t wait to see what God will do as we partner together to equip and enrich the lives of the women and children of Gabriel’s House. Inspiration is the catalyst for change!

Annual Christmas Party

At the Gabriel’s House Christmas Party on December 12, residents, staff, and special guests gathered to celebrate the birth of Christ. There were delicious treats, hot cocoa, Christmas music, and a skit presented by the a few of the adults and most of the children of Gabriel’s House. Two of our newest Gabriel’s Guardians donors presented Living Stones (stones with their favorite Bible verse) at the cross, symbolizing their commitment to stand with the women and children of Gabriel’s House. All of us at Gabriel’s House wish you a Merry Christmas!
